Physical Education Teacher TERMINATED for Using Profanity

a teacher under investigation for misconduct in the classroom is now fighting to keep his job Channel 2 Action News first reported the story last month about the Cross Keys High School physical education teacher a new at 6 channel to investigate reporter Mark wenny was there as the teacher tried to convince Educators that he should keep his job that’s right but late this afternoon his principal said he should not be an educator in De cab here is a recap of what has happened in the first day of this hearing after we broke this story a few weeks ago about the allegations against him he is charged with incompetence he did what was right in the classroom is charged with immorality Mr Burks as a PE teacher May sometimes speak ruffly to students but it’s not out of ill will also charged with insubordination tribunal hearing for Cross Keys PE teacher William Burks one of the central issues could turn out to be what his students were hearing among several charges in a letter from the cab school system that Burks used profanity and made other unprofessional statements repeatedly in front of students calling students dumb blanks stupid blanks and even using the F-word we request that you uphold the recommendation of the superintendent to not renew Mr bur’s teaching contract because it is time for Mr burs to take responsibility for his action your position on the allegation totally false you maintain you should have a job yes cross Key’s assistant principal Marcus cersi an early witness I investigated Mr B Burks over the allegations of making students feel uncomfortable but then cross from burk’s attorney Quinton Washington you think Mr Burks is a pretty good PE teacher um based off what I’ve seen in the classroom um yes I do there’s never been any issue with Mr Burke’s confidence he had there no has there ever been any allegations of Mr Burks being immoral no ever been an issue with Mr bur being insubordinate no but later serc testimony seemed unhelpful to Burke’s cause do you have any confidence in Mr Burks as an educator no ma’am principal Dr Tashara Wilson’s position seem clear it’s uh crystal clear that Mr Burks did not interact with students in an appropriate manner now just minutes ago I spoke to his lawyer Quinton Washington again who told me it is not clear and not true that he communicated with students inappropriately he says that some students uh made statements that nothing happened a hearing expected to resume tomorrow reporting live outside the cab School headquarters Mark Winnie Channel 2 Action News and more details about the complaints coming against William Burks Jr he’s accused of throwing a medicine ball at a student’s head last year he’s also accused of taking cell phone videos of female students doing push-ups in the 2011 2012 school year Burks admits that he recorded one female student doing push-ups but he insists that it was at her request
