live local late breaking this is Channel 2 Action News at 6 p.m. coverage You Can Count off right now lawyers for the Educators indicted in the cheating scandal are meeting to talk strategy and only Channel 2 Action News is there new at 6 the lawyer for a teacher who admitted cheating is also giving us alarming insight into an organized cover up inside a school at the center of the most serious allegation good evening I’m Erin Coleman in for Jo I’m Justin farmer only Channel 2 Action News has learned that right now lawyers for the 35 Educators who were indicted are holding a closed door meeting Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark winny’s live outside that meeting in midtown Atlanta oh we are told that virtually every defense attorney for those indicted in the aps cheating case has been invited to a meeting at 6 p.m. at the offices of Jones day where Beverly Hall’s uh lead lawyer Works uh we are outside that building now but we’re expecting that the first lawyer we heard from in our we hear from in our story is not going to be in there it was basically decided that there was one story they were going to all stick to defense attorney Quinton Washington says he represented a teacher who was in the middle of an organized cheating coverup conspiracy at Parks Middle School a school in the middle of some of the most serious allegations in the Atlanta Public Schools cheating indictment when they originally hooked up a story for Parks Middle School was there a des designated Fall Guy yes Gerald Grigg says he represents an exp Parks teacher charged in the indictment and takes a different view there was no uh conspiracy to cover it up there was no conspiracy to cheat Washington says his Parks client was not indicted even though she withheld information initially from the gbi he says agents thought she knew more and were right and she got immunity from and came clean with the governor’s special investigators if you wanted to get immunity from what was happening you had to tell the truth about what you was happening Washington says he represented two other teachers from another school shirona Thomas Wilson and Joya Florence who did nothing wrong and ultimately got their jobs back my reasons for teaching was to please God to honor God to work and to help his children Washington says he has no opinion about the upper level administrators in the case but where his clients are concerned the prosecution was very fair with teachers who told the truth a different view from Griggs who says the only two of his 14 teacher clients who got indicted were the two that talked before he signed on with them several of the teachers that have been indicted simply did not do anything and they told the truth repeatedly now minutes ago just feet from where I’m standing I saw Dwight Thomas who said he was here to pick up documents relating to his client millison Fu who he says is quote most definitely innocent he said he didn’t know about the substance of any meeting so whether it’s a document sharing event or what we don’t know we tried to get in we’re allowed reporting live Mark Winnie Channel 2 Action News
